Salad of the day: many flowers

I sprinkled my salad with bell flowers, starflowers and comfrey blossoms. The little yellow blossoms are from blooming salad. And everything's from my porch garden.

Salad of the day: Bell flowers

I found this fancy plate at an op shop for 1 € and use it regularly for my summer salads. The lettuce is from my vegetable garden on my porch.
Did you know that you can eat bell flowers? I've just found out. They are looking marvellous and satisfy my fondness of vibrant colours but unfortunately they taste of nothing.
Have a marvellous day full of edible flowers.

Cute mini-cakes called Gugl

As I wanted to find out so badly if the Gugl recipes work I made two attempts today. The first attempt with a chocolate cake recipe from the book was ok but there were some holes in the Gugls cause the dough was too thick. The second attempt with a lemon cake recipe from my own collection was almost perfect but I had to take way more lemon juice cause I wanted to make the dough thinner so that it could fill the moulds perfectly.
The lemon Gugls tasted so fresh, delicious and summery because of the large quantity of lemon juice that was in them. The chocolate Gugls had red wine and cinnamon in them which led to a warmer, wintery taste.
You can serve the Gugls with jam and cream. I put scented geranium leaves into my black tea for a finer, flowery taste. The Gugl recipe book includes also sauces that you can pour over the Gugls: red berry sauce, eggnog, red pepper sauce, marzipan sauce, beaujolais plums, ...
You can get the Gugl book and mould here. Give it a try! It's so much fun and one of the best party food you can bring when you meet your friends.
I want to try way more recipes. I also think of spicy versions with olives, oregano, cheese, dried tomatoes, caraway, ...
Have a colourful day!

Nice cookbooks for a lovely afternoon tea

See what nice cookbooks I bought today. I'm planning to host a lovely tea party in my house soon. There are so many possibilities for tea parties in this book:
  •  an iced tea afternoon in the south of America
  •  a tea party with flowers and fruit
  •  an elegant French tea party
  •  a cosy tea party in autumn
  •  a spicy Morrocan tea party
and there are way more ideas as
  • a white tea party in winter
  • a Japanese tea party
  • an English five o'clock tea
  • a Russian tea party
  • a Carribean tea party
  • a girlish pink tea party
  • an English High Tea
  • a baby-shower tea party
And I found a silicone baking mould for so called "Gugl" - which means mini-Gugelhupf - with a recipe book.
I've already tried a recipe from a cookbook with lots of recipes for
icecream, sorbets, parfaits, granitas and so on.
Have colourful tea parties!

Summer drink with mint

Water, some stems of peppermint, some lemon slices and lots of ice cubes give a refreshing summer drink.
If you want you can add some sugar but I don't like too sweet drinks.
This water carafe is great! It's closed when it's upright and you only have to turn it so you can pour out the water. The rubber lid automatically opens when you pour and closes when you set the carafe back on the table. The ingredients stay inside and no insects can secretly find their way into the drink.
Have a colourful summer day!

DIY-Project 5: Day lily dessert

I filled day lillies of various colours with a mixture of cream cheese, wild honey and cinnamon and put them in thrifted pastel coloured cognac glasses from the fifties.
It was a real eye candy and tasted delicious.
The day lilies taste fresh and crunchy. Give it a try.
Both day lilies and wood strawberries were from my garden.
Have a colourful flowery day!
